Day 7 – A Good Plan Today Is Better Than A Perfect Plan Tomorrow

November 7, 2010 at 7:00 pm 2 comments

I really like the title of this blog.  Especially because I have a problem with perfectionism.

Yesterday I wrote that I was going to make a vision/goal board, and set out my goals and plan for the upcoming week.

This morning I started to make my vision board, and to write goals and plans for this week. During the course of the day I did lots of other things and avoided making the vision board and writing about my goals. I’m now writing this blog because I’m still avoiding trying to make the vision board *gasp* perfectly.

I’ve made vision/goal boards in the past for business.  It shouldn’t be hard to do. But it seems that making one for my healthy lifestyle goal is a struggle.  I have a list of the best quotes I want to use, and pictures, etc. but the bristle board is still sitting there completely empty.  What am I doing?  Why do I think it has to be perfect for it to work?

So I sat down and had a stern talk with myself.  I looked at my successes this past week, and realized that I never started with a perfect plan last week (or even any plan really) and still accomplished so many things.  I accomplished what I did because I started out believing in myself, and believing that I could do what I set out to do. Sure, I had a few bumps (damn Halloween candy!) but at the end of week, I have more energy, I’m sleeping well, AND I saw the number go down on the scale.

So, here’s my good plan today, so I don’t need to worry about making a perfect plan tomorrow.

Goals for this week
  • Make meal plan, and shop for food – I did this today!
  • Make a good vision/goal board and realize it is a work in progress
  • Take 3 aerobic classes at fitness club – Monday, Wednesday, Friday
  • Do at least 2 weight training sessions – Tuesday, Thursday
  • Walk to work if the weather permits – 25 minute walk
  • Send off parcel to daughter at university
  • Bring in outdoor furniture and garden items
  • Take one bubble bath and give myself a facial

Food diary for Day 7

Breakfast –  Italian style scrambled eggs
Snack – Kozy Shack tapioca pudding 1/4 cup
Lunch – Body Wise tortilla with 2 slices fat free peppercorn turkey, celery; 8 oz vegetables
Snack – Kozy Shack tapioca pudding 1/4 cup (ok, I really like this!)
Dinner –Stir fry chicken with green pepper and mushrooms served with egg noodles
Snack – raspberries

Cheat for the day – Yes, I had one. 1/2 snickers bar – 120 calories (just before my walk, and my success was that it was only 1/2 a bar, not 1 or even 2)

Workout diary for Day 7

30 minute walk

Quote for the day: People with goals succeed because they know where they’re going.  Earl Nightingale
