This ‘N That Thursday

I am truly a klutz.  There is just no other word to describe what I was yesterday in the kitchen.

Yesterday started out great.  I was on track for meals, and instead of going to the gym, I was going to stay home and get the laundry done, vacuum, all the little things that needed doing around the house.

I spent about 1/2 hour going through my Google reader, and catching up on blogs.  Then I started cleaning up the breakfast items in the kitchen, stripped the beds, and started the laundry.

Shortly before lunch, this arrived!

This is my new treat, my early Christmas prezzie, and I can’t wait to start using it.

After unpacking the mixer, I started to make lunch.  This is where the klutz part came in.  I had purchased whole wheat pitas this week for my lunches, and of course, when I took the first one out, these pitas didn’t have pockets. So, I started to make a slit in the pita with this:

The knife I recently had sharpened.  Totally not paying attention, and sllllllllliiiiiiiiiiiip.  Right across the tip of my baby finger.  Thank goodness not all the way through (I’ll spare you the picture of that), but deep enough that I did a pretty good job.  I don’t think that I would ever be able to be a nurse, but I handle emergencies like this fairly well when it happens to other people. Me?  For some reason when I see blood coming out of me from a cut, I don’t handle it very well.  I stuck the finger under the tap, and then saw how deep the cut was.  I didn’t go into full blown panic, but grabbed a paper towel, and ran next door to the neighbours.  Thank goodness Kerry is a fairly calm person, although not a great bandager.  LOL

Next the debate became whether or not I should get stitches.  I HATE stitches.  I felt that as long as I put pressure on the cut, I should be fine, because I had to go to work at 3, and didn’t know how long I would be sitting at a clinic or emergency waiting to get stitched up.  So, pressure it was.

It did stop bleeding, but in the light of day today, it looks really nasty.  It’s wrapped up and is clean, and has been covered with antiseptic.

Now I have to think how long ago I had a tetanus shot.  I’ll call the doctor later today and check.

So, today, I need to finish the laundry, and vacuum.

And I’m also taking the advice of my son – “stay away from the knives today mom, or I’ll hide them”

Should I tell my son that this was the free gift with purchase of my KitchenAid Mixer?
