Visualizing Myself Thinner

It’s funny how your mind works.  It can be your greatest friend and supporter, or your worst enemy.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stepped on the scale in the past, expecting to see myself at a higher weight, and sure enough, there it was. Complete reinforcement of what I had been envisioning.

So, to completely erase the negativity of my old scale, I went out and bought a new scale. As I unpacked it from the box, I visualized myself stepping on the scale each Saturday and seeing the number go down.

Since I weighed myself last Saturday, I have been visualizing the number 188.  I thought that this would be a great number to reach this week, because it would be 2.5 lbs less than what I was last week. A good healthy weight loss.

Today, I stepped on my scale, and VOILA!

188.6 lbs!

It was only when I put the number into my weight loss ticker and it showed that I had lost 1.6 lbs, that I realized that I thought my weight was 191.4 last week, when I had weighed in at 190.4 .

But, you know what?  1.6 lbs is great and I’m thrilled!  It’s still a great healthy weight loss this week and I’ve lost 5 lbs in the last  2 weeks!

Instead of visualizing the negative, I visualized the positive, and it worked. In seeing myself thinner, I also made better food choices this week.

Speaking of better food choices.  My son is taking a food and nutrition course at school this semester.  He mentioned that I should be careful when choosing low fat items because they actually have higher sugar values than regular fat items.  The manufacturers do this in an effort to improve their taste.  I was very surprised.  I had always been checking labels of “regular” products, but had been automatically picking the low fat option without reading that label. Silly, huh?   I know better now!

As I was writing this post, I learned another interesting fact from Betty @thebettylife . Her latest post explains about bliss points and how it can affect your success with healthier eating.  Please go and check her blog out, she has some great articles!

Goals for last week and results

  • Make meal plan, and shop for food – Yes!
  • Make a good vision/goal board and realize it is a work in progress – well, didn’t make a physical vision board, but I’ve realized that my blog is part of my vision/goal board so I will work on this again this week
  • Take 3 aerobic classes at fitness club – Monday, Wednesday, Friday – went on Monday and Thursday, but went for a 45 minute walk on Friday instead
  • Do at least 2 weight training sessions – Tuesday, Thursday – nope, but I have my personal trainer this Tuesday, so will set same goals for upcoming week
  • Walk to work if the weather permits – 25 minute walk – YES – twice this week
  • Send off parcel to daughter at university – Sorry Sarah, will do that this Monday
  • Bring in outdoor furniture and garden items – doing that today
  • Take one bubble bath and give myself a facial – Yes, and it was fabulous!

I am proud of what I’ve accomplished this week, and can’t wait to set my goals for next week, and visualize myself thinner!
